Ybase
is the genetic/genealogical database set up and maintained
by DNA Heritage which accepts haplotypes and genealogical
information. It currently can accept up to 49 markers, making
it the broadest database available. It is also free and open
to the public and you don't have to contribute a record to search it - although we do recommend it.
It was set up as an answer to the private databases that
some of the commercial testing companies hold, requiring that
you be a customer to search them. Anyone can add to Ybase
and anyone can search it.
It has several search functions based on surname searches
and haplotype searches.
Surname searches allow surnames, variant spellings and associated
names to be found.
Haplotype searches allow comparison of your Y-chromosome
haplotype with others based on exact matches, near misses,
or number of matching markers.
The database has been open since October 2002 and currently
has approx.
2148
haplotypes, representing many of the surname
projects that have been carried out around the world to date,
all of which can be contacted via Ybase.
