DNA
Heritage today announces the opening of its North American office in a
strategic move to expand its share of the genetic genealogy market within
Canada and the US.
"The move into North America builds on the success we have had with the
launch of our market-leading 43-marker Y-chromosome test back in April of this
year," said Alastair Greenshields, founder of DNA Heritage. "We have been
able to successfully capture the European market and help connect cousins and
families through their DNA. Our new office gives us greater access to our
American and Canadian customers."
DNA Heritage specializes in Y-chromosome testing which taps into a growing
genealogy market, now the 2nd biggest hobby in the US. Millions of family
historians researching their surnames now have a powerful tool in connecting
up with their ancestors in the form of high-resolution Y-chromosome testing.
Carried only by males, the Y-chromosome is passed from father to son every
generation which means male cousins will also share the same DNA code and thus
can be used to research paternal lineages.
With their industry-unique flexible ordering system and a more universal
test than was previously possible, DNA Heritage provides 'genetic
genealogists' high-resolution tests starting from $138 in a laboratory that
received ISO17025 accreditation through the National Forensic Science
Technology Center (NFSTC) in March 2004.
DNA Heritage also maintains Ybase (http://www.ybase.org), the free,
public-access database which enables genetic genealogists to share and compare
their results with others, created in October 2002.

genealogists around the world to enhance their families' research. For more
