| In 1975 I obtained a German/English Cram family history, including pedigrees. I decided to link my English roots with this pedigree’s Hans von Cramm, supposedly b.1504, Germany, my earliest ancestor in Britain - I did, and was very proud.
I couldn't prove Hans’s German connection, as the old Parish Records were either too worn to be readable, or were beyond my palaeographic capabilities. It seemed I would never find an answer to my quest - but then I discovered the 'Holy Grail', otherwise known as DNA! My DNA, along with a German Barons, went to DNA Heritage for testing. Within 3½ weeks we received astounding news that our DNA didn't match! Later, the DNA Heritage database showed an exact match for me with someone of Scottish descent named Crammond! Amazing!!! DNA is a very powerful and reasonably priced tool, and is the only true answer to positively proving our roots. |
