Rev Samuel Schwerdtfeger (1734-1798) was the sole member of his family to arrive in the New World in 1753. His descendants -- including six male lines -- populated Williamsburg, Ontario and, after 1820, spread across the US in NY, CT, MN, NE, UT, CA, WA, HI and Canada in MB, SK, AB and BC. We'd like to tie the eight generations back together and trace further back to Germany (Bavaria). Odd fact: the name Schwerdtfeger appears in Thomas Mann's novel "Doktor Faustus". |
